The 2012 Mock Convention started on Friday with a parade full of Washington and Lee University students. They were all on floats that represented each state.
The students are excited. The facultys excited. The staffs excited. Were excited. We have some excitement.. wooo! exclaimed Tim Cole, a staff member from Washington and Lee.
Students like Connor Perkins have been working hard for this day all year.
Weve all been working on doing political research, trying to figure out what each state that were representing, what we think theyll pick for their particular primary or caucus, said Perkins.
Since 1948, these students have only been wrong twice when choosing who will be the out-party presidential candidate, so state leaders take this convention very seriously. Governor Bob McDonnell encouraged students to vote for Mitt Romney.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli agreed. He said the convention is a great way to get young people involved in the election.
it gives them the opportunity to think through this now, to hear from the governor, to hear from me, people who are dealing with these issues day to day and hopefully gives them a perspective and helps them reflect as they decide who they want to support, said Attorney General Cuccinelli.
Perkins said this event was a great way to get publicity for his school as well as for the upcoming election.
Besides being a gorgeous campus and having just a great faculty and student body. This really separates our school, puts it a step ahead of anywhere else in the country.
